FEBRUARY 21, 2018
The residential lighting programs that have generated so much in savings over the past decades have achieved significant market transformation. The Lighting for Tomorrow sponsors recognize this fact and are planning a workshop in 2018 in lieu of the traditional competition, with a focus on assessing current and developing needs in the residential lighting market. Members are convening a variety of stakeholders to hear their perspectives on the future of residential lighting, with the goal of outlining the role of lighting products in the integrated home, as well as determining the potential future role of LFT.
Lighting for Tomorrow will continue to support and promote 2017 competition winners online and at events like Lightovation and LIGHTFAIR® International throughout 2018.
The CEE members sponsoring Lighting for Tomorrow are taking advantage of the industry's current turning point to strategically consider the future of residential lighting. Workshop participants will explore how LFT can harness recent developments in the lighting market to foster energy efficiency and lighting quality while supporting positive consumer experiences with efficient technologies. These developments range from the shift toward greater SSL market penetration to the enhanced product functionality and introduction of connected lighting, the increasing role and value proposition of connected lighting as part of an integrated home, and the remaining adoption barriers to the integrated home. While Lighting for Tomorrow sponsors still believe there are opportunities to transform the residential lighting market—plenty of inefficient lighting is still being sold, for example—market factors are pointing toward a reevaluation of the traditional design competition model.
CEE is uniquely well placed to bring together stakeholders for this discussion. Through the annual Industry Partners Meeting and work throughout the year, CEE has fostered open communication between program administrators and the lighting industry. Now, with CEE as the trusted host of the conversation, Lighting for Tomorrow will gather efficiency program representatives from sponsoring CEE members and experts from across the lighting, retail, research, design, and connected home spheres to imagine and discuss the future of residential lighting in an interactive setting. Participants will explore trends and expected developments, new ways that stakeholders might promote or integrate connected lighting, and new functions or services of connected lighting that could provide added value to customers. The attendees plan to document their perspectives, findings, and key takeaways as a resource that serves the broader lighting and efficiency industries.
Workshop outcomes will be presented at the 2018 ALA Annual Conference in Asheville, North Carolina, in September and at the CEE Industry Partners Meeting this fall. To stay in the know, or to discuss sponsorship opportunities for your CEE member organization, contact CEE.
About CEE
CEE is an award-winning consortium of efficiency program administrators from the United States and Canada. Members work to unify program approaches across jurisdictions to increase the success of efficiency in markets. By joining forces at CEE, individual electric and gas efficiency programs are able to partner not only with each other, but also with other industries, trade associations, and government agencies. Working together, administrators leverage the effect of their ratepayer funding, exchange information on successful practices and, by doing so, achieve greater energy efficiency for the public good.
