 Canada's celebration of Clean Air Day 2008 was capped by the ENERGY STAR® awards ceremony on June 4th at the Fairmont Château Laurier in Ottawa, Ontario. CEE members garnered four out of nine Market Transformation Awards, including all of the honors for utility programs.
Parliamentary Secretary David Anderson of the Ministry of Natural Resources congratulated the winners, saying, "Using energy more efficiently is the easiest and most affordable way to control energy costs and reduce emissions. When a product carries the ENERGY STAR symbol, Canadians know it's going to be a great energy performer—and with the improvements to the Energy Efficiency Act introduced yesterday, Canadians will have even greater confidence in the efficiency of the products they buy."
 This year's winners included CEE members Hydro-Québec, British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority, and Ontario Power Authority.
Hydro-Québec won two awards. As provincial Utility of the Year, Hydro-Québec proactively used the ENERGY STAR brand to promote an integrated range of residential programs under the Energy Wise name. Also as part of Energy Wise, the utility won for Promotional Campaign of the Year of Multiple Products, for three campaigns that employed multiple communication channels to reach residents successfully.
 BC Hydro received its award for Promotional Campaign of the Year of a Specific Product transforming the market from for holiday lights to LED light strings. BC Hydro also contributed to the effort to obtain an ENERGY STAR label for LED lights.
Ontario Power Authority, a relatively new ENERGY STAR partner, emerged as ENERGY STAR Advocate of the Year as it worked to transform provincial culture through partnering with ENERGY STAR.
The annual ENERGY STAR Market Transformation Awards are part of ecoENERGY Efficiency Awards supported by the Government of Canada to celebrate best practices and innovation in energy efficiency in all sectors of the economy. Canada is striving to fight climate change by achieving a 20 percent reduction in its own greenhouse gas emissions by 2020.
 Marc Hoffman, CEE Executive Director, who attended the awards ceremony, joined in citing the hard work of all the CEE member utilities who are participants in the ENERGY STAR program, saying, "The crowning achievement of this awards presentation is knowing that we're all working together in the cause of energy efficiency, which benefits everyone in the long run—consumers, utilities, efficiency partners, the market, and, ultimately, the world we inhabit."
The Market Transformation awards ceremony, which was part of the 2008 ENERGY STAR Participants' Meeting June 4-5, recognizes companies and organizations that surpass the competition in offering Canadian consumers the most energy efficient product, technology, or service available on the market.
