CEE Leadership Participates in the 11th Global Conference on Energy Efficiency

This June, CEE leadership attended and participated in the International Energy Agency (IEA)’s 11th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency in Montreal. The event convened over 600 delegates, ministers, CEOs, and senior leaders from government, finance, and business sectors across the world.

Key themes throughout the two days of discussions and networking spanned:

  • Pursuing customer investments that are affordable, both in terms of upfront costs as well as operational costs;
  • Exploring financing options that enable participation, particularly through public private partnerships;
  • Planning ahead for projected load growth and anticipated demand increases, particularly from AI data centers and electric transportation; and
  • Developing policy models that enable market innovation and demand side management solutions while ensuring long term stability and consistency.

CEE’s Canadian membership was well represented and demonstrated immense leadership in driving energy efficiency and load flexibility. Natural Resources Canada is aggressively working to develop policies and frameworks to increase standards, enable financing, and support workforce development. Efficiency Canada is reinforcing these ambitious directives by developing research and advocacy agendas in support of such objectives. Electricity and gas members – including BC Hydro, Fortis BC, IESO, Énergir, and Enbridge Gas – are designing and deploying innovative programs to unlock deeper energy and cost savings, reach a broader customer base, and plan ahead for future load growth forecasts.

As the Consortium continues to create binational consensus positions and market transformation strategies that help the US and Canadian markets achieve integrated demand side management value, collaborating with and learning from international stakeholders plays a valuable role in revealing solutions to achieve these goals. CEE looks forward to continued participation and engagement with the IEA to help solve these global challenges ahead of us.
