CEE is actively pursuing explorations of natural gas saving technologies in Commercial Space Heating, Commercial Water Heating, Industrial Steam Generation
and Industrial Process Heating as well as continuing our efforts to expand our residential water heating initiative to new technologies.
Energy-saving opportunities currently being examined by CEE's Gas Committee for potential initiative development include:
- Commercial Boilers
- Improving the Gas Efficiency of Rooftop Gas Pack Units
- Commercial Water Heaters
- Industrial "Super Boilers" and Process Heating Technologies
- Residential Water Heating Technologies
COMMERCIAL BOILERS
Boilers are used to heat both space and water in a variety of commercial buildings. Many boilers in existing buildings are reaching the end of their
useful life, and so the opportunity to work to replace them with more efficient models is very attractive. CEE is currently investigating whether a
national initiative will help accelerate the adoption of efficient boilers in the commercial sector.
CEE's study, A Market Assessment for Condensing Boilers in Commercial Heating Applications is available as a
downloadable PDF document.
COMMERCIAL ROOFTOP UNITS
Great strides have been made in improving the electrical efficiency of packaged unitary HVAC systems, but the gas furnaces in these units
are often minimally efficient. CEE is currently assessing the feasibility of market transformation efforts in improving the gas efficiency of these
increasingly common technologies for heating commercial spaces.
COMMERCIAL WATER HEATERS
As a natural follow on to our residential water heating initiative, CEE has begun exploring the potential for improved efficiency in the gas fired
water heaters used in various commercial applications.
INDUSTRIAL STEAM AND PROCESS HEATING TECHNOLOGIES
CEE is undertaking research into specific industrial market segments, common industrial systems (such as steam systems) and key industrial processes
(such as process heating) in order to identify the magnitude of energy savings available and to determine which opportunities are industry-specific and
which are cross-cutting.
RESIDENTIAL WATER HEATING
CEE is monitoring various water heating technologies not reflected in the current residential gas-fired storage and tankless water heating Initiative.
These technologies include but are not limited to solar, heat pump, and indirect water heating.
