CEE is committed to expanding its natural gas programs in order to help incubate a robust natural gas efficiency program industry. We are proud to announce the adoption of a Residential Water Heating Initiative. CEE is currently evaluating other energy-saving gas measures and working towards developing initiatives in the Commercial and Industrial Sectors that focus on gas technologies. This information is available on CEE's Gas Exploration page.

Historically, CEE's gas activities have centered on exclusive gas programs, such as the Residential Heating and Residential Water Heating Initiatives. While this continues to be the focus, there are several initiatives that offer members both electric and gas savings.

For detailed information about the programs described below, click on the program title.

By promoting high-efficiency specifications for gas furnaces and boilers, the initiative is increasing demand for this equipment. The proper installation of energy-efficient equipment is another key element of the program.

The CEE residential natural gas water heating initiative promotes the adoption of high-efficiency products by providing specifications on efficiency and encourages consumer and installer adoption of efficient storage and tankless water heaters.

This initiative offers gas savings when clothes washers are used with gas water heaters and dryers.

The commercial clothes washer initiative encourages the purchase and use of energy- and water-efficient washers for laundromats, multi-family buildings and institutions. Use of qualifying equipment offers natural gas, electricity and water savings.

Through the Super-Efficient Home Appliances Initiative (SEHA), CEE is promoting energy-efficient dishwashers. Since water heaters account for most of the energy consumption, there are significant natural gas energy savings available from SEHA-qualified dishwashers.

CEE is currently assessing initiative opportunities in the area of commercial buildings, focusing on the ENERGY STAR® Buildings Labeling Program. This offers savings from high-efficiency gas furnaces and boilers. Potential energy savings are available through gas cooling.

CEE's Commercial Kitchens Initiative provides definitions for a set of high-performance commercial kitchen equipment that members can deliver as a "package" (or individually) to targeted food service market sectors. The initiative is designed to create focus in key market sectors through the use of program design strategy templates, and addresses technologies that save both gas and electricity

Gas Exploration Areas CEE is investigating a number of other opportunities for energy savings through natural gas, including commercial and industrial boilers, rooftop gaspack units, and commercial Dishwashers.
